The Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Mauritius has been   championing a “FOOD LOSS AND WASTE REDUCTION & RECOVERY” Initiative from February 2028-June 2019. It is now involved in an EU funded project DeSIRA and the DeSIRA Work Package 3 is about Enhancing Food Safety, Food Waste Reduction and Food Innovation. The United Nations General Assembly designated 29 September as the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW).In this context, the Faculty of Agriculture had organised a half day event on 29 September from 9.00 to 12.30 in Lecture Theatre 2 in the New Academic Complex to create awareness on the topic and showcase the Faculty’s contribution to this cause. This event brought together stakeholders from academia, government, civil society, private sector, food operators, hospitality sector, educational sector and non-governmental organizations.
