Talk at the Financial Services Commission (13th January 2026)

The Financial Services Commission, Mauritius hosted its third Research Seminar Series under the FSC Academy on Tuesday, 13th January 2026 on the Responsible Use of AI in the Workplace. The session was conducted by Dr Pudaruth Sameerchand, Associate Professor at the University of Mauritius and was followed by an engaging Q & A moderated by Deerajen Ramasawmy.

Key takeaways of using AI are:

The benefits (productivity gain, drafting & structuring ideas, summarizing non-confidential materials / publicly available documents)

The challenges (data privacy & security, accuracy & hallucinations, bias & fairness, lack of transparency, over-reliance on AI, accountability gaps, rapid technological change)

The responsible use and things we must not do when using AI were discussed including the availability of AI Text Detection Tools and their limitations.

He concluded that AI is a powerful tool, but it is not a replacement for human judgement. Benefits come with responsibility and risks.
