2024 UoM Students’ Exchange Programme (Summer Camp) in China: Pre-departure meeting

On June 7th, the pre-departure briefing session for the 2024 Summer Camp in China organized by the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius was successfully held. 16 students, from across Faculties and Departments of the University of Mauritius, were selected to participate in the summer camp. The students’ delegates departed on June 11th to attend a two-week exchange programme at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Hangzhou. The summer camp is funded by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation and jointly organized by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius.

To help the students better adapt to studying and living in China, the Confucius Institute arranged a pre-departure briefing session. Prior to the session, Professor Sanjeev Kumar Sobhee, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, and Associate Professor (Dr) Dinesh Surroop, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Planning & Resources had a cordial meeting with all the students and the accompanying CI-UoM Mandarin teacher and team leader, Dr Zhang Jianwei. Professor Sobhee congratulated the students on being selected for the summer camp and encouraged them to cherish this opportunity to learn and benefit from the exchange programme in China, improve their Chinese language skills, share their experiences with their friends and families when they are back in Mauritius.

During the training session, Dr. Kistamah, the Mauritian Director of CI-UoM, and Professor Fu Mingduan, the Chinese Director, encouraged the students to make full use of this precious opportunity. They urged the students to enhance their Chinese language skills and have a profound experience of Chinese culture through the well-arranged language courses and cultural activities at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. Dr. Zhang Jianwei outlined the goals, requirements, and some precautions regarding travel, study, and living in China, and assigned specific tasks and arrangements for the upcoming two weeks.

The two-week summer camp will include Chinese language courses, cultural experiences, and sightseeing in Shanghai, among a series of other exciting cultural, and educational activities. The students looked forward, with anticipation, to the summer camp and expressed their determination to take this opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and further improve their Chinese language skills. They are confident that they will have a memorable and rewarding learning and experiential journey.
