The University of Mauritius proudly hosted the finals of the prestigious "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition, an event that spotlighted linguistic proficiency and cultural talent. Graced by Her Excellency, Dr Huang Shifang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Yang Jun, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, Professor Sanjeev Sobhee, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, Chinese Director Mrs. Yang Fang and Mauritian Director Dr. Naraindra Kistamah of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, judges, contestants, and an enthusiastic audience, the event was a vibrant celebration of Chinese language and culture.
Twelve passionate contestants showcased their fluency and cultural insight through compelling speeches on the themes "Fly High with Chinese" and "One World, One Family." The competition also featured a lively talent segment, where participants impressed the audience with Chinese songs, dances, tea art, calligraphy, and traditional painting—offering a rich tapestry of visual and cultural expression.
After intense competition and deliberation, the first prize for the secondary school student category was awarded to Emeline Gabrielle Jata of Lycée des Mascareignes and Tammy Pearl Yue-Chi-Ming of the University of Mauritius for the University student category. A special prize was awarded to Anastasia Kimberley Melissa Mootoosamy for the university category. All three winners will attend the global finals of the "Chinese Bridge" competition to be held in China this year, and we extend our warmest congratulations and wishes to them!
This memorable event not only deepened appreciation for Chinese culture but also strengthened educational and cultural ties between Mauritius and China.
