CI-UoM attended an Explanation Session of the Recommendations of 15th Five Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, Dec 2025

It was a great honor for the Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, Dr Naraindra Kistamah, to address the audience at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, on the occasion of the visit of the Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Li Mingxiang.

The Vice Minister’s presence reflects the enduring friendship between China and Mauritius, a relationship built over many years, on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and a vision of cooperation that transcends boundaries. The visit was particularly significant because it highlighted dialogues on long-term planning, national development and governance. Exchanges of this kind allowed us to reflect on how different paths can converge towards the common goal of building resilient, inclusive, and prosperous societies.

China’s recently adopted 15th Five‑Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development offers a powerful vision for the future. It emphasizes innovation, sustainability, green growth, and social progress. These priorities resonate strongly with Mauritius’ own ambitions in areas such as the blue economy, digital transformation, and sustainable development. By aligning our efforts, we can create synergies that benefit both nations and contribute to regional and global prosperity.

At the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, we see ourselves as a living bridge between our peoples. Through language teaching, cultural exchange, and academic collaboration, we nurture understanding and friendship. Our students not only learn Mandarin, but also gain insights into Chinese culture, history, and values. In turn, we share with our Chinese partners the rich diversity of Mauritian society. In this way, the Institute embodies the spirit of people‑to‑people diplomacy, complementing the official ties between our governments.

The friendship between China and Mauritius is not only a matter of history, but also a promise for the future. Together, we can ensure that this partnership continues to flourish for generations to come.
