On February 7, the Chinese New Year International Gala 2026, hosted by the Chinatown Foundation, featured the President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency Dharambeer Gokhool, and his spouse in attendance, along with members of Parliament and the Chinese community, the Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, and guests from various sectors. The Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius was invited to participate in three major cultural activities: Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting, and Hanfu showcase.
The calligraphy booth attracted large crowds, where live brush-writing demonstrations were given and New Year blessings and Chinese names were written for guests.

The paper-cutting station featured festive and zodiac-themed designs, along with on-site demonstrations and hands-on participation, allowing visitors to experience this traditional folk art firsthand.

The Hanfu area offered guests the opportunity to try on traditional Chinese clothing and learn about its styles and cultural significance, and drew strong interest and enthusiastic photo-taking.

In his remarks, His Excellency, President Dharambeer Gokhool noted that the Spring Festival has become an important part of Mauritius’ multi-cultural life, and expressed his New Year wishes to all attendees.
