Dear Students,

 

The Department of Law welcomes you at the Faculty of Law and Management of the University of Mauritius.

Since 1985, the Department has pioneered and sustained legal education in Mauritius and actually comprises of 13 full-time academics and several law practitioners from the Judiciary, the State Law Office, the DPP’s Office as well as from private practice servicing law modules at the Department as well as across the campus.

Three main undergraduate courses are delivered by the department namely the LLB (Hons), BA (Hons) Law with Management and the BA (Hons) Law and Criminal Justice. At postgraduate level, three Masters programmes are offered namely the LLM (Corporate Law), LLM (Human Rights) and the LLM (Business and Taxation Law). Furthermore, the Department offers the Law Practitioners Vocational Course to students who, after completing their undergraduate law studies, wish to embark on the professional journey to qualifying as barristers, attorneys or notaries.

Our department endeavours to provide academic and practical training of a high standard to law students and to use up-to-date teaching and research methods to achieve its aims.  The Department, as well, encourages engagement of students in co-curricular activities such as debates, moot competitions, participation in regional and international events which contributes to providing a broader exposure to our students, in developing wide-ranging aptitudes and in forging a stronger character to face the challenges they will encounter once they join the competitive labour market.
