The Fourth 2020 Annual Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius was held online on the 11th January 2021. The meeting was co-hosted by the two Universities, ZSTU and UoM. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor WU Fengmin, Chair of ZSTU Council and Professor JHURRY Dhanjay, Vice-Chancellor of UoM. The members of the Board present were: Professor GAO Zhengrong, Vice-President of ZSTU; Professor FU Mingduan, Chinese Director of CI-UoM; Associate Professor KISTAMAH Naraindra, Mauritian Director of CI-UoM; Mr FU Xiang, Director of ZSTU International Exchange & Cooperation Office; Professor JI Xiaofen, Dean of ZSTU School of International Education; Miss BALLGOBIN Dehoutee (Vina), Senior Lecturer, Department of French Studies, UoM; and Mrs RAMANO Bodita, Senior Administrative Manager, UoM.
Professor Wu and Professor Jhurry welcomed all board members and they commented on the major disruptions caused by the global pandemic and the challenges both universities have had to face. They praised the way CI-UoM responded to the crisis and the work accomplished. They also congratulated each other for mutual support and understanding during the difficult times. Professor Fu Mingduan, Chinese Director of CI-UoM was invited to present the Annual and Financial reports of 2020 and the work plan and budget for 2021. The CI Director highlighted the major achievements of CI-UoM and the expenses incurred. The work report for 2020 was summarized into five main components. The first part relates to the anti-epidemic work carried out, protocols and support unit set up by CI-UoM as part of the epidemic prevention plan to protect the health and ensure the safety of the staff at CI-UoM. The second part was about teaching and cultural activities carried out using online platform in lieu of face-to-face interactions. The third component relates to the award of scholarship and the holding of HSK Exams. The fourth part was about academic and educational collaboration between UoM and ZSTU and last part was about information dissemination through various media, the setting up of an official WeChat and Facebook account and the timely update of CI-UoM website.
Associate Professor Kistamah Naraindra, Mauritian Director of CI-UoM thanked both universities for the support extended to CI-UoM. He also praised Professor Fu Mingduan for the prompt actions taken, formidable work accomplished over the lock-down period, the effort in popularizing Chinese Language and Culture at the University of Mauritius and the promotion of academic exchanges.
The Board discussed the annual and financial reports of 2020, the work plan and budget for 2021. The work plan for 2021 was approved, subject to some additions suggested by Professor Jhurry and approved by the Professor Wu of ZSTU, as well as the annual and financial reports of 2020, and the budget for 2021. Both chairpersons thanked all the members for attending the annual board meeting and wish each other a safe and prosperous year of the ox.
