The 5th Annual Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius was held online on the 3rd March 2022. The meeting was co-chaired by Professor WU Fengmin, Chair of ZSTU Council and Professor Sanjeev SOBHEE, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UoM. The members of the Board present were: Professor GAO Zhengrong, Vice-President of ZSTU; Professor JI Xiaofen, Dean of ZSTU School of International Education; Mr FU Xiang, Director of ZSTU International Exchange & Cooperation Office; Professor FU Mingduan, Chinese Director of CI-UoM; Professor Arnaud CARPOORAN, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Associate Professor KISTAMAH Naraindra, Mauritian Director of CI-UoM; Miss BALLGOBIN Dehoutee (Vina), Senior Lecturer, Department of French Studies; and Mrs RAMANO Bodita, Senior Administrative Manager, UoM.
Professor Fu Mingduan, Chinese Director of CI-UoM presented the annual report of 2021 and the work plan for 2022. The annual report was summarized into five main components. The first part relates to the anti-epidemic work to protect the health and ensure the safety of CI staff. The second part was about teaching and cultural activities carried out using online platform. The third component relates to the award of scholarship and HSK & HSKK exams. The fourth part was about teaching and scientific research and last part was about information dissemination through different media of CI WeChat and Facebook account and the CI-UoM website. Associate Professor Kistamah Naraindra, Mauritian Director of CI-UoM presented the financial report of 2021 and budget for 2022. He thanked both universities for the support extended to CI-UoM and hopes that CI UoM would take new opportunities to build CI-UoM into a high-level institute of teaching, cultural and academic collaboration.
Professor Wu Fengmin, Chairman of the Council of ZSTU and Chair of the Board praised the achievements accomplished by CI-UoM in 2021 despite the tough time of the pandemic. He mentioned that 2022 is the year of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mauritius, and hopes that CI-UoM will further strengthen exchanges between educational institutions in China and Mauritius, enhance the promotion of the Chinese language and culture through various activities. Professor Sanjeev Sobhee, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UoM recalled the main work carried out by CI-UoM in 2021, thanked ZSTU for its support and hopes that the two universities would promote teaching and academic cooperation in the new year.
The Board discussed the annual and financial reports of 2021, the work plan and budget for 2022. The proposed work plan and budget were thought to be comprehensive and the Board approved the annual and financial reports of 2021, the work plan and budget for 2022 during the meeting. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from both institutions.
