The 6th Annual Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius was successfully held at the University of Mauritius, 2022.
The 6th Annual Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius was held on May 17th 2023, marking the first time it was held in Mauritius since the establishment of the Confucius Institute. The members of the Board present included Professor Wu Fengmin, the Chinese Chair of CI Board and Chair of Council of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University; Professor Sanjeev Sobhee, the Mauritian Chair of CI Board and Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius; Professor Liu Zheng, Dean of the Faculty of International Education of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University; Fu Xiang, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University; Professor Fu Mingduan, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius; Professor Mohammad Issack Santally, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academia) of the University of Mauritius; Bodita Ramano, Senior Administrative Manager at the University of Mauritius; Dehoutee Vina Ballgobin, Senior Lecturer of the Department of French Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Mauritius; and Associate Professor Naraindra Kistamah, the Mauritian Director of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius.
Professor Wu Fengmin, the Chinese Chair of CI Board, expressed his gratitude to the University of Mauritius for its strong support to the work of the Confucius Institute and acknowledged the hard work of both Chinese and Mauritian directors. He fully affirmed and highly appreciated the outstanding work of the Confucius Institute. In 2022, the Confucius Institute made significant progress in teaching while achieving remarkable results in cultural activities such as the "Chinese Bridge" competition, local Chinese teacher training in Mauritius, and Chinese painting exhibitions. The level of education and influence has been significantly enhanced. He mentioned that in the new year, the two universities will resume exchange visits, welcoming students and staff of the University of Mauritius to China to gain a comprehensive understanding of China. He expressed hope for further deepening of cooperation and exploring innovation between the two universities, and with Confucius Institute as a bridge, to achieve more win-win results in talent cultivation and scientific research. He also emphasized the contribution of deepening Sino-Mauritian cultural and educational exchanges and advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Africa.

Professor Sanjeev Sobhee, the Mauritian Chair of CI Board, thanked China, especially Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, for its support to the University of Mauritius and the Confucius Institute's work. He pointed out that despite prevailing Covid-19 pandemic conditions in 2022, CI-UoM successfully carried out various teaching and cultural activities through a combination of online and offline approaches, achieving much breakthrough. He stated that the University of Mauritius will continue to implement cooperation initiatives, support CI-UoM in its activities, and actively promote cooperation between the two universities.

The Board members listened to and reviewed the work report of 2022 and the work plan for 2023 which were presented by Director Fu Mingduan, as well as the financial report for 2022 and the budget for 2023 which were presented by Director Naraindra Kistamah. All presented reports and statements were approved by the board. During the meeting, under AOB, discussions were held on future cooperation with other tertiary public universities in Mauritius and the setting up of a language laboratory.
