Mrs. Liu Linyan first introduced the background, objectives and content of the "Nine-year Basic Education Reform" in Mauritius, and then focused on the analysis of the impact of the education reform on the Mandarin teaching of young age groups. She pointed out that there are still some problems in Mandarin teaching in Mauritius after the education reform, such as lack of qualified local teachers, complete teaching system and digital teaching resources. She noted that the teaching method is limited and needs to be improved. Finally, she suggested that the Mandarin teaching in Mauritius should focus on training of local teachers, enriching teaching resources, expanding teaching models, and constructing digital teaching platforms. After the lecture, Mrs. Liu and the participants had an in-depth discussion on Mauritian Mandarin teaching for half an hour.
The lecture attracted teachers and students from China and Mauritius and the outcome of the discussion could benefit stakeholders who promote Mandarin teaching in Mauritius.
