On 18th January 2020, Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius celebrated the Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival.
Associate Professor, Tan Xudong, Outgoing Chinese Director of CI, Professor Fu Mingduan, Incoming Chinese Director of CI and Associate Professor Kistamah Naraindra, welcome the guest and participants. They wish everybody present a healthy, enjoyable and prosperous year of the Rat. The celebration of the Chinese New Year holds a very special place in the heart of the Chinese and it is the time for many relatives to come together. The festival is celebrated by all Chinese communities across the world. At CI-UoM, the celebration started with a play by students of CI-UoM which recounts the origin and meaning of ‘Chinese New Year’ through a story entitled “The Legend of Nian”. They also performed a number of Chinese songs, recited poems and performed plays on the occasion. The Chinese Cultural group from Attila Club gave a spectacular show of beating drums and striking gongs, as well as dragon and lion dances, as part of the festivities. The show was very well appreciated by the large audience present for the festival.
The Mauritian Director of CI-UoM thanked all the teachers for the great work leading to the celebration, the wonderful performance on the day by all participants and the great family spirit.
