The pre-departure briefing of the 2023 Student Exchange Programme organized by the Confucius Institute at UoM was successfully held on October 19. Eleven students from the University of Mauritius, along with lead teacher Ms. Zhang Xinglan, departed on October 21 for a two-week trip to Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Hangzhou, China.
The exchange programme aimed at giving the students an opportunity to experience student’s life in China, discover the culture through experiences, hone their language skills for improved Mandarin communication, and establish networks with peers in China. Prof. Fu and Dr. Kistamah delivered inspiring speeches, and Ms. Zhang Xinglan outlined detailed itineraries, emphasizing cultural differences and travel considerations.
After the briefing, two Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Issack Santally and Assoc. Prof. Dinesh Surroop, met with the participants, extending their best wishes and encouraging them to make the most of this valuable opportunity.
The summer camp includes language courses, cultural experiences, and sightseeing activities, offering students a comprehensive understanding of Chinese language and culture.
