In order to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius and to stimulate the enthusiasm and interest of CI-UoM students by offering them the chance to showcase their written mandarin proficiency, the Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius held the first essay competition with "My Mandarin Learning Story" as theme. The participants were able to express their experience of learning Mandarin. 64 entries were enthusiastically received, including 36 in the public group and 28 in the UoM students’ group.
Following due deliberations by six experienced judges, a total of 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 5 fourth prizes were awarded to the students’ group; 1 first prize and 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 10 fourth prizes for the public group; a special award was also given. Winners shall all receive certificates of participation and prizes, and the award-winning articles will be compiled for a "My Mandarin Learning Story" journal.
