‘Hello everyone! This is Xiong Xinghan, Assistant Professor from the Institute for International and Area Studies at University of Tsinghua. Besides living and studying in China, I also studied in France, the United States and worked in Madagascar. Currently, I am invited by Dr. Didier Michel, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, Faculty of Law & Management, University of Mauritius, to work together in your beautiful country as visiting scholar.
Fascinated by the cultural diversity and unique history of Mauritius, I believe the country holds the key to reframe our knowledge and understanding of the Indian Ocean region, which is not only a mass body of water, but also a space filled with heart touching past and great potential to face the challenge of the future. Thus, I intend to stay in Mauritius for one year to carry out my research, broaden my horizons and make new friends.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius (CI-UoM) is more than a promotor of Chinese language learning and cultural exchanges, it also carries Chinese traditional wisdom and a deep willingness to further friendship with Mauritius. It is my honor and great pleasure to make acquaintance with this institution and its versatile and lovely members, whose kind help enables me to enter into the fabulous daily life of the island.’
