Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for University Student Finals, Fujian Province, August 4-26, 2025
Mauritius was proudly represented by one University of Mauritius student at the Finals of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for University Student, held in Fujian Province. This is an event that spotlighted linguistic proficiency and cultural talent. It is a vibrant celebration of Chinese language and culture and a unique opportunity for the contestant to meet peers and celebrate diversity and unity.
The contestant for Mauritius was Miss Anastasia Kimberley Melissa Mootoosamy. Below is a recount of her experience of the event in Fujian Province and visit to Beijing.
“This summer, I had the honor of representing Mauritius at the “Chinese Bridge” competition in China. It was truly one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Over the course of the program, I was able to explore the rich history and culture of China—from visiting the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in Beijing to experiencing the beauty of Wudang Mountain, Quanzhou, and Fuzhou.
What made this journey even more special was the opportunity to meet so many friends from different countries. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we often communicated in Chinese, which became our bridge when no other common language existed. This experience allowed me to see the true power of language in connecting people.
The volunteers, teachers, and organizers were all so kind and supportive, making the entire journey warm and unforgettable. Through cultural exchanges, competitions, and shared moments, I not only improved my Chinese but also gained lifelong memories and friendships.
I am sincerely grateful to the Confucius Institute for giving me this opportunity. This experience has left a lasting mark on me, and I will never forget the spirit of unity it created.”
