On the afternoon of February 28, 2025, a delegation from the Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Ministry of Education，China, led by the Deputy Director General Mr. Hu Zhiping, visited the University of Mauritius (UoM). They were warmly welcomed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammad Issack Santally of UoM. Also present at the meeting were Mrs Bodita Ramano the Administrative Manager of UoM, Dr. Naraindra Kistamah and Professor Fu Mingduan, the Mautitian and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius.
Professor Santally, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He mentioned that since its establishment, the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius has been dedicated to promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange, becoming an important international education and exchange platform. The offering of Chinese language and cultural course by the institute has benefitted university students, staff and people from various sectors of society whilst the activities organized by the Confucius Institute have enhanced local people’s understanding of Chinese culture. Professor Santally expressed his hope for further strengthening of academic exchanges and talent cultivation between China and Mauritius, so that both sides’ educational cooperation could make greater progress.
Mr. Hu Zhiping expressed his gratitude for the warm reception at UoM. He stated that the purpose of this visit was to deepen cooperation between China and Mauritius in areas such as Chinese language teaching, local teacher training, and curriculum development, and he looked forward to the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius playing an active role in this process. The Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation will further strengthen its collaboration with the University of Mauritius, promote language and cultural exchange, and hopes that through joint efforts, more youth exchanges will be fostered, enhancing mutual understanding between the languages and cultures of China and Mauritius.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius, where they held a discussion with all the faculty members. The Chinese Director professor Fu Mingduan introduced the teachers' work and lives in Mauritius. The Deputy Director General Mr. Hu Zhiping praised the overall development of the Confucius Institute and encouraged the teachers to continue playing an active role in cultural exchange and talent cultivation between China and Mauritius.
