A silk painting workshop was hosted at the Department of Applied Sustainability and Enterprise Development (DASED), Faculty of Engineering from 04th to 06th Nov 2019. The workshop was organized by CI-UoM and DASED in collaboration with Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU). The Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Dinesh Hurreeram, and the Head of DASED, Dr Anagha Soocheta, welcomed the resource persons from ZSTU and thanked them for coming from, as far away as, Hangzhou, China to share their valuable experience with students of Fashion Technology of UoM. The workshop introduced the traditional art of Song’s Dynasty of ‘bird and flower’ painting on fabrics. It also introduced the art and design of the Royal fan and silk scarf.
Dr Zhai Lina, Lecturer at the Fashion Design and Engineering Department, Mr Lin Jian, Lecturer at the Fashion Design Department, and Ms Jin Ying, Head of Fashion Design Department hosted the workshop. They were assisted by Mrs Yu Jie of International Office and Mrs Jiang Ashley, Liaison Officer of CI Affairs at ZSTU.
The students of Fashion Technology valued the workshop for its intense practical aspects, interactivity, and relevancy to their field of study. They gained an insight into the art and design of apparel accessories using traditional painting techniques. As a show of respect and gratitude, the students organized lunch for the Chinese guest lecturers.
