The 8th Annual Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at University of Mauritius, University of Mauritius, September 2025
On September 25th, the 8th Annual Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius (CI-UoM) was held at the University of Mauritius (UoM). The members of the Board present were Prof. Zhao Quanjun, the Chinese Chair of CI Board and Chair of Council of ZSTU; Prof. Mohammad Issack Santally, Ag. Mauritian Chair of CI Board and Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius; Prof. Liu Zheng, Dean of Dean of Fashion Design College of Istituto Marangoni, ZSTU; Mrs. Lyu Yuanyuan, Director of ZSTU International Exchange & Cooperation Office; Mrs. Wei CHEN, Director of Office of Finance, ZSTU; Assoc. Prof. (Dr) Verena Tandrayen-Ragoobur (Mrs), Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH); Ms Dehoutee Ballgobin, Senior Lecturer, FSSH; Mrs Bodita Ramano, Senior Administrative Manager at UoM; Assoc. Prof. Yang Fang (Mrs) and Assoc. Prof. Naraindra Kistamah (Mr), the two co-Directors of CI-UoM. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Santally.

Prof. Santally welcomed all the members and acknowledged that the Institute has made remarkable strides in fulfilling its mission, i.e., in Chinese language teaching, promoting Chinese culture, and facilitating inter-university cooperation. He said that the Confucius Institute at the University of Mauritius continues to be a vibrant bridge between the two cultures, fostering mutual understanding, academic excellence, and enduring friendship. He reaffirmed the shared vision of cultivating global citizens who are linguistically skilled, culturally aware, and intellectually curious. He hopes that we continue to build a Confucius Institute that not only teaches language, but also nurtures understanding, respect, and friendship between the two peoples.
Prof. Zhao, in his speech, thanked the Ag VC and the members of the Board of UoM for the warm welcome and hosting the 8th Annual Board meeting at the University of Mauritius. He was delighted to see that the Confucius Institute has grown into a vital platform for promoting cultural, educational, and academic exchange between China and Mauritius. It is playing an increasingly significant role in strengthening the friendship between the two countries. Prof. Zhao looks forward to reinforcing partnership between Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and the University of Mauritius. With joint efforts of both universities, the Confucius Institute can be further developed to cultivate more international talents who will contribute to enhancing exchange and collaboration in various fields between China and Mauritius.

Both parties commented on the 2024 Annual Work and Financial Reports presented by Assoc. Prof. Yang Fang and Naraindra Kistamah. They reviewed and approved the 2025 Work Plan and Financial Budget. Additionally, other related matters were discussed during the meeting.
The meeting ended with a photo session and the presentation of tokens of appreciation.
