We are committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities, and populations through diverse programmes, collaborative research, and strong partnerships. Our curriculums emphasize problem-based, evidence-based and practice-based learning to enhance the students' acquisition of integrated knowledge, improve their problem solving skills as well as improve their abilities in clinical reasoning. Our students also also involved in various community outreach programmes aiming to bring our faculty and relevant health services closer to the community.

At our faculty, we also strive to build on partnerships with industry/hospitals and the different ministries to provide early clinical exposure and patient contact. The Faculty offers courses, training, and research opportunities in a variety of scientific and clinical disciplines. We have been pioneering by offering courses of national relevance in fields like Biomedical Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Rehabilitative Sciences. By affiliating SSR Medical College and Polytechnic Mauritius with our faculty and UoM, we are already establishing ourselves as the premier education provider in Medicine and Health Sciences.

Our graduates have been contributing to sustaining the health care system in Mauritius, especially during the Covid lockdown period. As a new faculty, we know we face a big challenge, we know the road will be rough but our focus remains the quality of our teaching and research. This is an exciting time for Medicine and Health Sciences and the creation of our faculty sends a strong message to the whole population.

Medicine and Health Sciences have come a long way from being a small Department set up in 1989 to a full-fledged Faculty. We are now dedicated to establishing our Faculty as a reference in medicine and health science education as well as research locally, regionally and globally.
