About Quality Assurance

Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, the University of Mauritius (UoM) is dedicated to ensuring Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) across all core activities: Teaching, Research, and Community Engagement. Each activity is overseen by its respective Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director, who are instrumental in advancing quality assurance initiatives and ensuring excellence across the institution.

Established in October 2002 and operating under the purview of Teaching and Learning, the Quality Assurance Office at UoM aimed to implement the Quality Assurance Framework while optimizing academic and administrative processes for teaching and learning. The Office also had oversight for MPhil/PhD regulations and conducted the Employers and Graduate surveys for undergraduate and taught post graduate programmes every two years.

The Overarching Quality Assurance Framework is overseen by the University Quality Assurance Team (UQAT) and includes rigorous systems for monitoring and evaluating the quality of all Programmes (Teaching and Research), ensuring high standards through collaboration with Industries and the Private Sectors. The Quality Assurance Framework undergoes ongoing reviews and development, reflecting our commitment to Continuous Improvement which not only strengthens academic rigor but also cultivates critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving skills, among the competencies necessary for our graduates to address real-world challenges. The University, Faculty, and Centre Quality Assurance Teams (UQAT/FQAT/CQAT), drive the Institutional Quality Assurance Framework aligned with the UoM Strategic Plan (2024-2030) to uphold the Vision and Mission of the UoM for all the UoM three core activities.

The University has a rich history of external evaluations of its Quality Management Systems, with reviews on Teaching and Learning, Research, and Community Engagement as themes conducted in 2005, 2012, and 2018, and the Self Evaluation Report is coordinated by the Director QA. As the University embraces rapid technological advancements and shifting societal demands, it has established itself as a Flagship Institution in Teaching and Learning, Research, and Social Services to the community.

The Quality Assurance Office continues to operate under the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academia) - Teaching and Learning and is dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence that enriches the educational experience for all Stakeholders. It is headed by Dr. (Ms) F. Khodabocus, Director, who is supported by a team comprising of the following Staff Members: Ms. S. Chiniah Quality Assurance Officer, Mrs. S. Joyekurun Senior Executive Assistant, Mrs. A. Aukhjee Executive Assistant and Mrs. S. Nundloll Confidential Secretary.
