Ayurveda Chair

Advancing Evidence-Based Ayurveda, Integrative Health and Global Well-being

Since its establishment at the University of Mauritius in April 2026, the Ayurveda Chair has initiated and participated in a range of academic, research and outreach activities, including:

  • Teaching and academic interaction with students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
  • University-wide lectures and interdisciplinary academic engagements.
  • Establishment of the Ayurveda Lounge during the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
  • Development of proposals for professional development, certificate and skill-development programmes.
  • Initiation of research in evidence-based Ayurveda, integrative health and Ayurveda Informatics/Artificial Intelligence.
  • Student research mentoring and interdisciplinary project development.
  • Engagement with University leadership and national stakeholders for strengthening Ayurveda education, research and capacity building.
  • Public awareness and community outreach activities promoting preventive health and well-being.
  • Academic and collaborative engagement with the Ministry of AYUSH, High Commission of India and relevant institutions in Mauritius.

Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, was created in August 2004, with medically qualified academic staff of the former Department of Health and Medical Sciences, Faculty of Science and medically qualified staff from the former SSR Centre for Medical Research and Studies.

Department of Health Sciences

The Department has long been recognised for offering various allied health professional programmes - Nutritional Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Sanitary Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Imaging Technology, Nursing and Sports Sciences.

Ayurveda Chair

Established in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, the Chair provides a platform for interdisciplinary engagement between Ayurveda, contemporary health sciences, technology and preventive healthcare.
