The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Mauritius hosted a vibrant prize-giving ceremony on 20 September 2024 at the R.Burrenchobay Lecture Theatre, UoM Campus, to honor and reward students with outstanding academic achievements in the fields of actuarial studies and financial economics.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, G.C.S.K., Governor of the Bank of Mauritius and by Mr. Vasish Ramkhalawon, Secretary General of the Insurers Association, who sponsored the prizes.

On behalf of the Insurers Association of Mauritius, Mr. Ramkhalawon presented IAM’s prizes to top performers in the BSc (Hons) Actuarial Studies programme.  Miss Danisha Marthen received the IAM 1st Prize as the best final-year student, which includes a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Mr. Sirven Pareanen followed closely, earning the IAM 2nd Prize with a trophy and Rs 10,000 for his commendable performance as the second-best final-year student

Additionally, to recognise exceptional talent in the MSc Financial Economics programme, the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius awarded a cash prize of Rs 100,000 to Miss Harudalaxmi Munisami as the best final-year student in the programme.

The ceremony was a heartwarming event, bringing together Faculty, Heads of Department, fellow students, and proud parents, all eager to support and celebrate together with the winners. The latter shared their experiences, highlighting how their hard work and dedication during their studies had paid off.  This annual event not only emphasizes the importance of academic excellence but also inspires future cohorts to aim high in their educational pursuits.
