Departmental Research Committee
The Departmental Research Committee, established at the level of the Faculty concerned, considers the ethical implications of research conducted by staff and students or conducted under the auspices of the University of Mauritius with respect to undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.

Ethical Clearance from Parent Ministry
1. As per Circular from the parent Ministry (Ref: MTE/CR/213 V4), a ‘No Objection Certificate’ is required before data collection for all research conducted
- on educational policies, protocols and procedures;
- on educational institutions, at any level;
- on students registered in an educational institution, and of whatever age; and
- on educational professionals (teaching, administration or general staff), operating at any level.
It is recommended that Ethical clearance be sought by the applicant (after consultation & under guidance of his/her Supervisor), from the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology. The Application Form should be filled in online by the applicant. Application for a ‘No Objection Certificate’ must be received by REC at least eight weeks before the proposed start date for data collection

4. Data Collection for research purposes from primary and secondary schools will be permitted, subject to approval of the REC, only for period January to mid-June of each year.
5. Clearance may be requested to be sought from other relevant Ministries depending on the nature of the research project.
