EDU ABCM - Capacity Building on Student-Centered Energy Education; The second physical meeting in Mauritius and Courtesy Visit at UoM
The EDU ABCM project, entitled "Capacity Building on Student-Centered Energy Education," is an international initiative led by Associate Professor Dr. Eng. Pratima Khadoo from the University of Mauritius. This project aims to modernize and transform education in the energy sector, with a strong focus on sustainability and student-centered learning approaches. It operates under the framework of the Erasmus+ program and is funded by the European Commission. Spanning from 2023 to 2026, the EDU ABCM project brings together universities from four African countries and European partners to advance energy education and sustainable development.
The University of Mauritius serves as the project coordinator, representing Mauritius in this collaborative effort. Eight universities across Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mauritius, and Mozambique are part of this initiative. In addition, the project involves two European universities from Italy and Sweden, which provide expertise and support to ensure the project's success. This collaboration aims to enhance the capacity and capabilities of the participating African institutions by modernizing their academic programs and aligning them with global standards.
One of the project's key objectives is to modernize the curricula of the participating universities. By incorporating cutting-edge knowledge and technologies, the project seeks to equip students with the skills needed to address energy challenges in their respective countries.
The collaboration between African and European universities is a cornerstone of the EDU ABCM project. European partners bring advanced expertise in energy education, research, and innovation, which serves as a valuable resource for African institutions. This exchange of knowledge and practices enables the participating universities to develop tailored programs that address local challenges while adhering to international standards. Furthermore, the project fosters a spirit of cooperation and mutual learning among the partner institutions, contributing to the overall advancement of higher education in Africa.
The first physical meeting was held in Sweden from 9th to 13th June 2025. The second physical meeting has been held in Mauritius from 19th to 24th February 2026. A courtesy meeting was scheduled on 23rd February in the Council and Senate Room with all the delegates and the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof M I Santally.
